Posted: January 28, 2015
Overwhelmed by the support all of you have shown us in the last 24 hours! Thank you..we will be going to the JUNOS this year in Hamilton with ALL of you on our minds and hearts. I mean how cool is that we would be in the same JUNO category with 2 of the biggest icons in children's music (Raffi, & Fred Penner). What an honour! Also, out of the 220 JUNO nominees this year, only 11 are labelled Independent...we are proud to be one of those BUT we must say..we are hardly 'independent'; Splash'N Boots is and has always been made up of an amazing team we are proud to call our friends... we would be no where without them and wanted to publicly thank them. THANK YOU...   #Happytimes indeed. Just found out we have been nominated for #JUNO. Raffi and Fred Penner..grew up with them. Crazy. @junoawards

A Blog for a Blog!
Posted: August 17, 2013
We were recently asked to answer some questions for a Blog Called: Momology! Thought we would post our answers here! Be sure to check out all of Jen's Blog and Website. Her son, Conor, has been to a great many Splash'N Boots shows and is a truly extraordinary kid. Jen's blog explores the challenges and victories of living with a child on the Autism Spectrum, she is an active advocate in the community for both autism and autism service dogs. An inspiration to all! Here are her questions.... Q. How did you get your start and where did the name Splash‘N Boots come from? We started Splash’N Boots when we were at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Nick was taking drama and English and was in the concurrent education program all set to become a teacher. I was in drama and music and really had no idea what I wanted to do, although I did want to work with kids in some way. That summer we were hired to a part of Barefoot Players, which is a theatre group that performed in schools, parks and libraries. It was the ultimate summer job experience. We fell in love with the idea of singing songs for children and there was no looking back. We jumped right in and Splash’N Boots was born. Looking back it’s funny to think about how we had no idea what we were doing but we just told everyone that was our full-time job and that was that. HA! The name Splash’N Boots came later, when at our first show it was POURING rain and kids showed up in their yellow rain boots. Q. You songs are unique and fun for the kids (and yes, parents too)!! Where do you come up with all the zany lyrics and ideas? Is it a collaborative effort? Many things inspire us when it comes to writing songs. Sometimes it can be a simple phrase someone says to us for example our new song, “Just Try One Bite. You Might Like It”. Or while we lived in Kingston we thought it would be great to write a song about a pirate that lived on Lake Ontario, which turned into our song “Treasure of Gold”. We also have lots of nieces and nephews who help us come up with ideas and we also sometimes ask our fans. Our entire last album “Coconuts Don’t Fall Far From The Tree” was created from titles our fans picked! Check it out here: Q. I love the fact that you are proud Canadians!! You even write about Canada in a few of your songs. You perform all over Canada, but do you, or have you done shows in other parts of the world? Have you noticed a difference in what it is like performing in those countries? We are so lucky to have had the opportunity to perform in Australia, the Middle East, Bermuda, Italy and Spain. It’s funny actually because before the shows we are always nervous – its a new culture, they don’t speak English, new place, new situation and I always worry that they won’t like it as much, but we have realized that kids are kids and music is universal and no matter what, they always love to dance, and have a good time. I am always overwhelmed by the response; even if they only speak Italian, they are still jumping up and down! Q. For those that have not had the opportunity to see Splash‘N Boots live, how would you describe your shows and what kinds of things can people expect to see at one of your performances? I think the biggest thing that sets our show apart is that it is SO interactive that no two shows are ever the same. We make up the set list depending on what the audience is into, and it changes as we go. It’s all very organic – trying to figure out what kind of crowd they are and tailoring our show around that. Our shows are also very high energy – the kids are up on their feet singing and dancing and being involved in every aspect of the show. We really aim to create a show that all members of the family will enjoy so always throw some stuff in for the adults too. When it all comes down to it, kids are looking for the same things adults do in music: Quality music with catchy lyrics and musical hooks. So we set out to write songs that can be enjoyed by all ages and create a show that parents and their children can enjoy together. Q. Can you tell us what a typical day looks like in the life of Splash‘N Boots?Well if we are working from home we usually get up and start the day with tea (Boots) or a coffee (Splash). Usually we have business stuff to attend too; emails, contracts etc, or we have creative things like song writing, designing, rehearsing new songs, or recording or filming. Those are my favorite days – the ones where we get to create new material! Plus no day is complete without a good run with the dogs…. [gallery] Q. It is exciting news that Splash‘N Boots has become quite popular on Treehouse TV and you have also been involved with Roll Play Live! What’s that been like for you? Has this had an impact on your careers thus far? We were sooooo excited when we were chosen to be the hosts of Roll Play Live. It was such a great opportunity to really get out there and get exposure. It’s always been a goal of ours to get our own TV show, and being on Roll Play Live and also having our videos picked up by Treehouse was an important step in that direction! We have found that kids recognize us now….like in the airport the other day at 7am (having slept very little and dressed in almost-pajamas!) I hear “MOM IT’S BOOTS!” Soooo funny! It was great though we had a good sleepy visit before the flight! Q. Can you tell us what ‘Kitchen Jams’ are? Is there a story behind how you came up with this idea? Kitchen jams are basically when kids write in and request a song, then we write a song and sing it for them in our kitchen. It’s sooooo funny because it inspires us to write songs we wouldn’t have thought of and also because they are all kind of random and fun ideas (like: I want a song about a purple robot who likes to eat ABC Noodles”!) The song “For The Love of Dance” actually started out as a kitchen jam requested by Emerson from Kingston, a little boy who’s mom wrote in and said can you write a song about Emerson and his love of dance?! We loved the idea so much that it went onto our album and then was the first music video ever picked up by Treehouse. THANKYOU Emerson!! For the Love of Dance Kitchen Jam For the Love of Dance Music Video Q. Being on the road as much as you are, I am sure there must be at least one funny story from being on tour. Would you share one with us? About six years ago we got an email asking us if we would come and play a birthday party in Bahrain. After debating whether this was a joke or not, we decided it couldn’t hurt and wrote back that we would love to! Two months and several emails later we found ourselves in first class seats headed to the Middle East. I could probably write an entire book about the plane ride itself it was so extravagant! We arrived and were greeted immediately upon stepping off the plane by the family who had hired us. They whisked us off to the hotel and as we were standing in the lobby the dad looks up at the picture of the King on the wall of the lobby and says “that is my father” – I almost choked on my sparkling water – we had no idea we had been hired by the Royal Family to play at the Grandson’s birthday. And what a birthday party it was! More food than you see at most weddings, and a little two year old birthday boy in a gold suit. The hospitality was amazing and the family was so kind to us. We even got a chance to play for the King himself. After the show we did on the stage outside, we were ushered into the house and found ourselves standing smack dab in the middle of a huge room lined with couches filled with various royal family members. There were zero kids to be seen. “Sing!” someone said. We looked at each other with big eyes thinking “what do we sing?!” Minutes later we were singing about the Pirate of Lake Ontario to the King of Bahrain. Luckily two of the cousins who had been at the show ran in mid-song and started dancing along with us. The King started to clap his hands! Saved! We knew he was happy when he invited us to his camel farm the next day and were chauffeured around the island by a private guide. Q. If you had to describe your music in 3 or 4 words, what would you call it? Energetic… Happy… Creative Q. One of my favourite things about your shows is the interactive way that you perform. The kids love it… and I know the parents have as much fun at your shows as the kids! I think of the number of times we’ve laughed so hard we’ve cried… and that’s from a parent’s standpoint!! Do you have a favourite memory (although I am sure they are all pretty amazing!) that stands out while interacting with the kids? Ya, it’s always sooooo funny what happens in shows – and I love that it’s not scripted because it keeps it fresh and fun for both us and the audience. Plus you never know what kids will say! We had one kid say his favorite animal was a piggy bank, and I remember once when we were performing in the Arden Theatre in St. Albert this kid came up on stage to sing all by himself and he looked straight up at the lights over head and said “wow the sun sure is bright in here”. Q. I’m sure many would say that you have the dream job… traveling, performing… I imagine it’s all pretty exciting! So when you aren’t on tour what kinds of things do you both like to do for fun? Ya, to us it does really feel like a dream job mostly because it never feels like work. Everyday is a new adventure – meeting new people, traveling and getting opportunities to create new things. We have two dogs and when we are at home we love spending time playing with them – taking them on hikes and runs. It’s also nice when coming home to be able to spend time with friends – we always like a good sing-along BBQ! Q. Does anyone or anything in particular influence your music/shows? The reaction of kids is our biggest inspiration. Seeing them laugh, smile and dance inspires us to create more and keep doing what we do! Q. Out of all the songs that you have written and performed… and I know there are a lot… do you each have a favourite? I’ll start… my favourite is ‘Treasure of Gold’… the story of the Lake Ontario pirate…Splash: Coconut the Squirrel Who Lost His Nut Boots: I Love You The Most (because I love watching parents and kids sing this song together – makes me cry… a good cry!) Q. I know that you are big supporters of SickKids Hospital. Can you share a little bit about your experiences with the children when you visit? We performed at the SickKids Hospital for the 1st time many years ago. We were incredibly moved how amazing this place was. From the staff to the brave children and parents we met, we wanted to do something to give back. We started performing free shows there on their closed circuit TV so all the children can watch from their rooms. We do it kitchen jam style so kids can call down from their rooms and request a song about anything at all and we will sing it for them on the spot. It ends up being pretty funny, and it’s great because the kids get customized songs for themselves. SickKids is an incredible place that we hope no one ever has to pay a visit to. Everyone who works there makes that place feel magical. Proud to be associated with this Hospital and foundation, and love being able to write them cheques from our album sales. I hope we make them millions of dollars one day. Here is a great link to buy gifts for kids: Q. If you could perform with anyone in the world… dead or alive… who would it be?Barenaked Ladies Sharon Lois and Bram Q. If your life story was made into a movie, what would it be called? Now, do I dare ask… who would you chose to play yourselves? Or maybe I should ask you to make that choice for each other?! Oh – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for SURE! HAHAHAHHAHA It would be called: When Splash Met Boots Q. Alright… if it’s OK with you… let’s have a little fun. If I give you a phrase, can you fill in the blank… Without music, I would be an: organic farmer My music makes me feel: alive Right now I’d really like a bowl of: spaghetti In my pocket, there’s a: guitar pick In my kitchen I usually: sing with the kitchen jam band!! Q. Where can people learn more about you and your music? Our website: Facebook: Twitter: Pinterest: Instagram: Wow that’s a lot of social media…. Q. So, what does the future hold for Splash‘N Boots? We have some exciting things happening on the TV horizon that we are really excited about (to be announced!) We hope to expand our touring into the United States and basically become like The Wiggles (have got to dream big, right?!) But the main thing is, no matter what ends up happening professionally we feel so so lucky to get to spend every day doing what we love and meeting so many incredible kids and families. snb5 In ending this interview I find myself thinking back to the shows that we have enjoyed… the shows that our son has been a part of… and the wonderful memories that we have from each and every show! If you ever have the opportunity to see Splash’N Boots live, I would highly recommend it!! I would really like to thank Splash’N Boots for taking time out of their busy schedule to chat with us! SickKids Hospital: An Incredible Place
Posted: March 28, 2013
We often get asked what we do when we perform at SickKids Hospital to answer some questions: 1. We do a concert on a close circuit camera so ALL of the children can tune into a certain channel and watch us LIVE. Most children can't come down to the small theatre because they are in isolation 2. Children call down during the concert to the theatre and can request a song about anything and we write a song right there on the spot for them. It's pretty hilarious what we have to sing about. 3. We get to visit some of the children and their families in their rooms after the concert and deliver a free DVD for them. (everyone gets a free CD or one of our DVD's if they request a song idea) 4. We always do these shows for free. 5. SickKids is an incredible place that we hope no one ever has to pay a visit to. Everyone who works there makes that place feel magical. Proud to be associated with this Hospital and foundation. Here is a great link to buy gifts for kids:

A Boots Blog: Planes, Pillows and Bits & Bites
Posted: February 15, 2013
It was a crazy morning in the SnB household. There is nothing quite like packing to go on Tour. No matter how organized I think we are, we always arrive at the airport looking like we packed our entire house. This time I forgot to pack my pillow (I am a big princess when it comes to my pillow- its one of those squishy, memory foam aloe infused never get neck pain ones- worth every cent) so I forgot to pack it and was carrying it along with a purse, knapsack, suitcase and guitar. Gong show! But somehow we made it on the plane (pillow still in hand, because when I tried to stuff it in a suitcase we discovered the suitcase went over the exceeded weight limit) New Discovery: my pillow ways a whopping FIVE pounds. I love planes. I love the feeling of floating between two places. Plus the "bits and bites" are so delicious. When else do you eat bits and bites but on WestJet?! Looking forward to this tour- 7 days, 7 Theatre shows. Updates coming daily!
A Boots Blog- On Being Happy
Posted: January 29, 2013
HAPPY. What does that mean?. How do we achieve it? Its the one thing everybody wants. It led me to thinking about kids- is there a way we can teach our kids to be happy?? So I did a little research.... I found that there are actually schools that have a course in Happiness. On a side note- I would have totally rather taken THAT than Math in highschool...and it probably would have been way more useful. (tax season is upon us and I am trying desperatly to happily go through our piles of receipts) I found this article and thought it was a great resource: Teaching Your Child the Art of Happiness Also I watched the movie "The Help" the other day and what stood out the most for me was the line: "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." I love that! What a great thing to teach children. The focus of Splash'N Boots and the songs we write don't usually fall into the 'teaching' category but more of a general feeling that the music brings to people. We hope people leave our concerts with that feeling of happiness and positivity. Lily and Buddy seem to have the whole happy thing down pat!

A Splash Blog: Putting your shoes on after your pants…just makes sense
Posted: November 21, 2012
I write children’s songs for a living. It was never my intention when I was growing up. I figured I was going to play in the NHL or be a farmer. This did not happen. However, when I fell into this “job” with Taes, and we created Splash’N Boots while in University, I instantly fell in love with everything about being a children’s performer and have not looked back ever since. I grew up with music in my house. Either being played through the speakers or songs around the campfire. I not only had an understanding of how important music was to me, but also how important music was to my family. It was shared. We would listen and play music together. This is how I approach songwriting for children. It has to be shared! If parents are singing along and NOT banging their heads against the driver side window, children will inherently be drawn to the music and develop a love for it. We started writing our sixth children’s album in early 2012. One morning during coffee we had the idea to let our fans choose the song titles for our new album. We thought this would, not only be a great way to connect to our fans, but create an opportunity for parents to come up with ideas with their children about topics they would like songs about. The response was huge and we then let everyone vote on their favourites. The results were exciting and very random! We would have never come up with these titles on our own. We even let them come with the title of our new album. The winner? “Coconuts Don’t Fall Far From the Tree”. We loved it. We now had 15 new songs with titles, and no music or lyrics to show for them. This was a huge challenge. I have never started with a title before. It has always been the natural last step. Like putting your shoes on after your pants…just makes sense. The process however was very rewarding and inspiring. Each song title leant itself to its own unique sound and the songs just started to flow. In about 2 months of writing the songs were ready to record. I never approached children’s music any differently than I would if I were writing an adult album. Well not 100% true. Structurally yes. I would not throw in a 3-minute thrashin guitar solo in the middle of a song or write an 8-minute epic power ballad like “Stairway to Heaven”. We get to the chorus fast and length of the songs average just over 2 minutes. Also, I would have to say lyrically there is a difference as well. Although we put in the odd “reference” for the parents we stay away from swear words or promoting violence. Shocking. I know. HA But musically I would have to stay we spend as much time, effort and money into making these songs sound as professional as any album out there. Well maybe not the same amount of money Justin Beiber would spend recording on an album but you get the point. The value of children’s music should not be a cheapened experience. This might their first introduction to music! The quality should there and we have always taken that role seriously. We love the idea of real people, playing real instruments. There is something rich and authentic about the recorded sounds of a real standup bass, cello or banjo. You will be able to hear these instruments plus so many more on our new album…PLUS how the title: “Coconut the Squirrel Who Lost His Nut” turned into a bluegrass/country song. Our new album went number one on Bandcamp on the release date! You can get one here: Also, feel free to send me your song ideas… OR start writing your own children’s songs! I would love to hear them. Keep the music rockin’ in your house and sharing that music experience with your kids. They will thank you for it!

Who Needs Car Windows!?
Posted: August 7, 2012
We are on our way home! We packed up our stuff from the Strathmore Rodeo. Took one more group picture: And got on the road! No sooner had we gone through Medicine Hat when we heard a huge bang. We looked into the back seat and our entire rear passenger window had shattered into a million pieces. We looked into the field for a sniper, but there were only rows of hay bales. We looked in the backseat for a rock, but nothing there either. I of course got the giggles (this is my automatic reaction when something stressful happens) Nick jumped into action and got out Lilys ball thrower and started clearing the glass onto the side of the road. Lily observed. We got back on the road, with significantly more air flow and noise in the car.  That night we taped a garbage bag up over our window and loaded all of our stuff into the hotel room. Now I don't know much about car windows and glass size and such but after discovering that the speedy auto in moosejaw had no glass our size I took it into my hands to find ourselves some glass at the next stop. In the meantime we look awesome: I get on the phone and organize with Brian the friendly Kenora mechanic exactly what size of window and tint we need (I at this point am priding myself on quoting off all of the right model numbers) After telling me exactly where we should eat and sleep in Kenora (got to love small towns) he told me they would have it looked at at 8am the next day and install the new window. We continued on our windy drive. We bought audio tapes on our ipod and were listening to Ellen's life story really loud so that the wind didn't drown her out. Halfway there our tape deck broke. Two for two! Nick spent three hours in Tim Hortons waiting for the window to be done as I ran lily, had breakfast in bed and got a massage and pedicure (only one of the above events actually happened....) When Nick went to pick up the car he was nervous to see the door still lying on the ground in many pieces. It turns out... They ordered the wrong window..... I was however assured it was not my fault it was the manufacturer. (PHEW!) On his way back to the hotel nick got out of the car and his cell phone fell to the ground and smashed into a million pieces. I think it wanted to be like the window. In good news, we just entered Ontario. There is something so beautiful and comforting about the Canadian shield. Big rocks meeting the water and pine trees everywhere. So here we are, driving along the 17 highway, our plastic window flapping in the wind, singing at the top of our lungs to keep ourselves entertained, lily snuggled in for a long nap, and beautiful scenery spreading out on either side of us. Cause in the end who needs cell phones, tape decks and windows!? Anyone know any good car games?
Life on the Road - ‘Touring across Canada’
Posted: July 30, 2012
We have currently been on the road for 45 days.  Performed 74 shows with only 22 left before we head back to Ontario and continue the summer tour... the rest however, we spend in our own home. We drove this year which we have never done before and we brought our dog Lily. I think it was somewhere driving along the prairies that I looked at Taes and said I can’t believe we brought Lily for no real reason. As I looked over there Lily was with her head out the window taking in the glorious views and air. What a wonderful dog she is...she has certainly brought soooo many laughs to sooo many people on this tour. I’m sure when she gets back to Toronto, she will share all of her road stories with her other dog friends about traveling and performing across Canada. Woof.             We have some great friends on the road. Friends that we only see this time of year, when we are all touring together; the kind of friends that you pick up exactly where we left off the summer before without missing a beat. It’s kind of like a dysfunctional wonderful family. One Man Bands, Clowns, Magicians, Hypnotists, High Divers, Human Robots, jugglers...the list goes on and on but these are the great people we get to call friends. They are so interesting and passionate about what they do and boy oh boy when we get in the same room we just laugh and laugh. It is an unspoken camaraderie that has developed over the years and it makes me laugh just thinking about the situations we have found ourselves in.  This tour has been no exception.             Living and working on the road is very unique. Restaurants become your dining rooms and Hotels become your homes for short periods at a time. Then you pack it all up and move to your new home in a new city for 3 -10 days at a time. Since the hotels are booked for us it always a surprise which hotel we are in and what colour the comforter is. That’s our go-to test for hotel quality. The more design on the comforter on the bed the less luxury the room. On this tour we have had beautiful stuffed ‘solid white’ duvet annnnnd a bright blue and red/cars,planes and golf players comforter....I rest my case.             Our shows have been so fun on this tour and it has been amazing to come across Splash’N Boots fans all across the country. People have been requesting their favourite songs and showing up with their yellow shirts. That has been truly inspiring to us. I think we have the greatest fans ever. That’s what keeps us going and to have the opportunity to meet so many families is so great.             Well I should finish up my hotel coffee and get ready for the shows today here in Edmonton. The sun is shining and looks like it’s going to be another great day on the road. Lily is looking excited..or maybe she needs to go to the bathroom? Cheers from the road, Nick  aka Splash

A Splash Blog: The Making Of An Album
Posted: May 28, 2012
It was a funny morning about 4 months ago, when I said to Taes: “Hey let’s do a new album but lets let our fans pick all the song titles”  She simply responded: “Love it! Sounds good”  Originally it was going to be 10 songs but then we had a tie so added 2 more to make the total 12. 12 new songs...oh boy. Now what? Time to start writing...oh and we need to finish the whole album in 4 months because we go on tour the whole summer. Noooo sweat...a lot of sweat. The approach I started doing a while ago when a melody came into my head, was to turn on Photo Booth on my macbook and play my guitar and sing the song without  lyrics. This was the quickest way to capture what was coming out of my head. I used to have panic attacks when I came up with a melody and have no good way to record it. I thought the song was never going to come back! However, now I have tons of these hilarious video references of partial songs.  INSPIRATION: It was truly a new approach already having the song title chosen for the song because the content was already suggested in the title but what would song sound like?  What style? I had no idea. It wasn’t till I watched this great band live called “The Beauties” in Toronto one evening shortly after this project was launched that something opened up and songs started to flow. It was lively it was part bluegrass, rockabilly, country and rock. FUN. That’s the kind of album we should make! Singable, authentic, dance-able tunes. RECORDING It was time to record and we made the decision to record the whole album in our house. Why?? People kept asking. Couple reasons I guess. We wanted to give this album a certain vibe to it. One that felt comfortable and as if we invited everyone into our Kitchen for a party. So we actually recorded bass and vocals in our Kitchen. The other idea was to not feel rushed or feel there was start and finish time. Often we ended up recording till late at night because we were having so much fun...(not sure if the neighbors were having as much fun listening to us ;)  We enlisted the help of one of our best friends Joel to engineer the project which made it even that much more relaxed because not only is he a great friend, he also lives just down the street which gave start and end times more flexibility. We started bringing in friends to play and sing and we were blown away with the sound we were getting. Also the fast pace we flying through the songs. Most times we had the bass the drums record at the same time to capture that live feel plus we did our vocals at the same time as well. Recording Vocals for Taes and I at the same time was key. We have a glass door in between our Kitchen and Living Room so we were able to see each other as we sang. This allowed us to match our energy and phrasing, which we do on stage already. We have also added a third harmony voice in our friend Dani. She has been rocking the vocals and blending perfectly with the songs.MIXING It’s time to mix the songs alllll together and see what we come up with for the final product. We have never worked so fast and been so inspired for one album. So excited for everyone to hear it and sing along. I think I have been singing these songs for 3 months straight.

A Boots Blog: Return to Highschool!
Posted: March 11, 2012
I grew up in Perth. Not Perth, Australia, but Perth, Ontario. We like to call it P-dot. Population 6,000. Home of Big Ben and the official Maple syrup, and retirement capital of Ontario. YEEEWW! (Thats a noise we make in Perth when we are excited about something) Try it. Its really really fun. My family moved to Perth when I was in Grade 5, and I honestly cant think of a better place to grow up. Last  weekend we went back and performed a show at my old Highschool: PDCI- home of the Blue Devils! Here is the Auditorium: While wandering around PDCI this weekend, I had a good laugh at this: Note the top left hand corner. Here, let me zoom in a bit. OH YES- student council co-president in all of my white button up shirt glory. Ben Graham and I got to do the morning announcements and encourage people to cheer at the Pep Rallies. Actually kind of similar to what I do now..... It was really great having my mom at the show to help and do Merch. Its like her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, that never taste the same if I make them....somehow this merch table looked better than I have ever made it. It's a moms touch! She even wore a hat! Thats dedication! What was the most amazing was being able to see friends from high school and meet their kids, some of them for the first time! It's so great to see where everyone is at now. One of my best friends, Kelly, had a baby just last week so i was able to visit her as well. Kelly and I used to say we were going to be the next Dixie Chicks when we grew up. Here is her baby Maren: If you are ever driving in the neck of the woods, I encourage you to drop by the little town of Perth. Stop by the GoodWood over for some Pizza. My first and only waitress job was here- I once dropped an entire glass of red wine on a women in a white linen pantsuit. One of my finer moments. A big shout out to everyone who came out last weekend- it was AMAZING to see you. YEWWWWW! My good friend Galens Kids: Abby and Sophie after the show.

A Boots Blog: This IS my day job
Posted: February 22, 2012
We are sitting at the bank waiting to be pre-approved for a mortgage. Our banker sits down across from us and says "You must be so excited to own your first home. Now what is it you do for a living?" Nick and I look at each other, and I say "We are musicians. We sing for kids" Her face falls for a second, and she looks genuinely confused. "OH she says. So like Birthday parties and stuff? That's fun! But what is your day job?" The thing is: that is our day job. Ever since we graduated from Queens University in 2005, to the genuine confusion of our parents at the time, we have done nothing but perform live concerts for families. Mind you, in the beginning we were often only performing for one family (in the case of our first show, that family was my Dad) but now we travel from coast to coast and internationally playing at theaters, festivals and events. It's amazing and crazy and everyday is a weird adventure, but I cant imagine doing anything else, or finding anything more fulfilling. I grew up surrounded by music with a mom who taught piano out of the house, and was always taken to both adult, and kids concerts and shows as I was growing up. One of my most vivid memories was going to see a Sharon, Lois and Bram concert. I remember how exciting it was for me to be going on a special outing with my mom, just the two of us. I remember my awe as I came into the theatre, and saw how many seats there were. The huge stage and lights were larger than life to my seven year old eyes, and as the theatre filled up with a whole bunch other kids and parents, I remember the feeling of anticipation and excitement that was shared among the audience. Mostly I vividly remember singing along and doing the actions with my mom and thinking that for SURE Lois could see me in the crowd and was noticing how good I was doing! These are the things I think about when we do shows now. For us, it's one of many shows, but for each child out there, it is an entire experience that can shape the way they see the world, and open up their mind to possibilities. I feel so strongly that taking kids to see live music and theatre is one of the most important things you can do for them as a parent. Plus I think we are in an exciting time when more and more music is becoming cross-generational. The number of times we get asked by four-year-olds to play an AC/DC song is unbelievable. But I mean seriously, its not like the second the babies pop out parents switch to listening to baby beluga all day. But the fact that parents can listen to kids music, and kids can listen to parents music means that going to concerts can be a shared experience that adults and children can enjoy together. So thats why I wanted to start this Blog: a blog not only for the kids, but for parents as well. Since we do have a super weird, funny and amazing job we often have some great stories to tell. This is where you can come to read them! Places we go, people we meet. What we do on "days off." Our songwriting process as we write our next album.... We are writing a new album, but it is an album that YOU are going to help create. Fans have already picked the song titles and now we will be asking for inspiration, rhyming words, and ideas as the songs are created. Join our Facebook page: to be a part of the process and get your name in the credits. Once all of the songs are written we are going to record our kitchen! Proceeds of all sales of this album are going to go directly to The Sickkids Hospital here in Toronto. If there is anything you want to ask, or would like to hear about, let's us know and we will get on it! Now its time to take Lily for a run...She has a crazy look on her face like she needs to go tear around the park and get some of her energy out!
...and the NEW Album Title is????

Children’s Group of the Year Splash'N Boots
Want Fans' Help Writing New Album
New stars of Treehouse TV taking Facebook suggestions for sixth album
TORONTO, February 3rd, 2012 – Hot off the heels of a cross-Canada theatre tour with Treehouse LIVE, Children’s Music Group of the Year Splash'N Boots want their Facebook following to help them write their sixth album! With their breakthrough music video For the Love of Dance airing nationally on Treehouse TV, the cutting-edge duo's new 10-track compilation will be based solely on fan suggestions.
Everyday for approximately one month, Splash'N Boots will update their Facebook status seeking new recommendations for song titles, lyrics, and even the album's name, allowing everyone to provide input on what they'd like to hear on the twosome's upcoming CD. Fans will even be able to submit artwork which will make up the CD's booklet. Fans can 'like' Splash'N Boots on Facebook at
Once they've received enough fan feedback, Splash'N Boots will write and professionally record all 10 tracks live from their kitchen – where they have been filming their ever-popular “Kitchen Jam” webcasts for the past two years. In addition, the entire process will be filmed and edited into a documentary, making this highly anticipated album the ultimate band/fan collaboration. With a portion of all proceeds going to Sick Kids Hospital, the album is expected to be released this spring.
“We truly have the best fans anyone could hope for, so we're thrilled to invite them in the song-writing process,” says Taes (pronounced 'Tess') Leavitt, the group's 'Boots'. "Because of the fan involvement, this is going to be our best album to-date!”
“We've always been so well connected with our fans through social media,” says Nick, the group's 'Splash'. “Having our fans help out with the new album seems like the natural progression for us!”
With five CDs and two full-length DVDs under their belts, as well as over 1,000 international festival and theatre performances, there is no sign of slowing down for this young husband and wife team. In addition to their music video currently on heavy rotation on Treehouse TV, the duo performed in 11 cities this fall with Treehouse LIVE for the Roll Play Live Animal Party tour – based on Treehouse TV's award-winning show Roll Play. Subsequently, the breakout pair landed an additional four music videos as well as four half hour episodes of Roll Play that will air on the popular children’s network in 2012 for the next six years.
Stemming from a 2004 Queen's University class project, Splash'N Boots are constantly connected to their fans via social media channels. With a growing following on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the two have a lot in store for 2012, including several more Kitchen Jam appearances at Sick Kids Hospital; an organization they continually support, recently donating $1000 after selling their first thousand copies of their “Back in Yellow” CD.

The New Album - STEP ONE... Song Titles ?
Posted: February 7, 2012
We were very excited to announce to our fans that we were starting to write our 6th Album; we were even more excited to announce we were going to have them help us every step of the way. Day ONE started with a bang and the response was great....we were blown away. We decided to begin with the Song Titles. We asked people to submit Song Title ideas which would then makeup the album Track List. The ideas and suggestions came pouring in. When writing a new song we've never really started with a title before so this would be a new experience in itself. With over 100 title entries we narrowed it down to 5 with the remaining 5 titles to be voted on by our fans. We only gave them 24hrs to vote and again the response was exciting to watch unfold. There were some close races and in the end we had a 3-way tie for the last spot. Not wanting to miss out on a great opportunity we quickly decided to included all 3, making the album 13 strong. So here it no particular order. The new "unwritten" songs!

Splash'N Boots 6th ALBUM - Official Press Release
Posted: February 6, 2012

Kitchen Jam Mondays!

A Kitchen Jam Definition: An original song written on a topic YOU pick, and sung in our kitchen. Every Monday.

A Destination Kitchen Jam Definition: Since we are not home every Monday some kitchen Jams get set on the road wherever we happen to be, and in this case, sometimes the location lends itself to a good Kitchen Jam Topic. ie: check out our Italy, Spain and Buckingham Palace , Mexico Kitchen Jams ;)

SO we have set ourselves a goal of doing a kitchen Jam EVERY SINGLE Monday for a year. This means by the end of the year we will have written 52 original songs. If you want your song idea to be included in a kitchen jam simply write us an email to:

Tell us you name, age, where you live and what you would like a song written about... it can be about check out Purple Chef Robot -Kitchen Jam
Make it a family activity!

Right now we are in the middle of our Canadian Childrens Festival tour with stops in: Penticton, St. Albert, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Last night we did a live Kitchen Jam on-stage while we mc'd the Festival Variety Night. Check it out on our website under Kitchen Jams in the Video section "Singin' a Tune in Saskatoon"

As we were getting pictures for our new album done we decided to throw in a few "holiday" themed ones. It just so happens that our photographer has a baby..super cute.

Baby Steven (again: Not our baby):Just so happens baby steven has the same size of head as Lily (our puppy!)!

Ridiculous-ness followed.

Its tough being a dog in show biz.

In other news we just taught Lily to ring a bell when she needs to go pee. She rings the bell with her little paw and we open the door for her to go outside She loves ringing the bell so much that now she just wants to go in and out of the house. So NOW we have started rehearsals for her bell playing in the show...wait for it..its going to be amaaazinng. As long as she doesnt pee everytime she rings it.

excellent question!

We tried so hard to have it ready for Christmas this year....the whole team has been working around the clock to get it done. We want this album to be perfect and we do not quite have enough elves working for us to have it on time for the 25th, but let me tell you it is going to be well worth the wait.

Stay tuned for a pre-release of our single and music video "For the Love of Dance"

Show-wise we will be performing at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts on Deecember 28th at 11am and 2pm. Get your tickets here

New years Eve we will be flying off to Edmonton, Alberta for 3 shows at Festival Place Theatre. We have special guests from the Dancefusion Academy coming to perform: For the Love of Dance with us for all 3 shows! Invite your friends to come and dance and sing to bring in the New Year!!

We hope you are enjoying the beginning of your holidays and have a wonderful wonderful holiday season spent with lots of friends and family and music.

Fredericton Fun and a Run!
Posted: May 12, 2009

We just returned from beautiful Fredericton, New Brunswick! We played four shows there: 1 school, 1 at the YMCA, and 2 shows as a part of the 3rd Annual FredKids Fair. What an amazing event. The Friday night concert was a packed house- it was great to see so many families we met last year and meet some new ones as well.

Sunday we teamed up with our Fredericton host family, and ran the Fredericton Half-Marathon! Initially we were going to do the 10k...but got inspired when we got there. Nothing like running 21 km's with no training. Although I have to say Monday was a bit painful!!! This is before the Marathon...

and this is after: (we picked up a baby along the way :)

and yes- everyone gets a medal.

We also travelled to St. John and hiked around Irving Nature Park. (even though it was rainy it was soo beautiful) Love the east coast.

Now we have a few days home then its off on our Children's Festival Tour with stops in Calgary, St. Albert and Saskatoon! Can't wait.
Hope to see you soon!!

What a March Break! So glad that we had nice week of weather, because we did some major driving around from show to show. It was great to see some familiar faces, and meet so many more families. Thank you to everyone who made a show part of your break, and also a huge thank you to those who came dressed in Pirate Costumes- love it!

This is right before our final show of the week at the Delta Auditorium in Hamilton. A Special thanks to Umbrella Family and Childcare Services in Hamilton for sponsoring the show.

On a completely non-show related note...I wanted to share something with you, because it made my day. Not sure if you know this, but I have a thing for Manatees. I travelled a few years ago to a place called "Manatee Bay" (sound familiar..?) . I was able to go and see them in the wild, which was AMAZING. But my full-life time goal is to swim with them. Apparently there is a place in Florida...keep waiting to get some Florida shows!

Check out these baby Manatees who have been rescued:
Does it get any cuter than that?! One of my favorite sites is:
Check out how we can all do our part to save these beautiful animals.

Ok- back to business. (baby animals distract me very easily)

Our Hamilton Place show is coming up, and we just got a call from the box office and tickets are going fast. So, if you would like to come, get your tickets asap. We are playing in the studio theatre, so there are a limited number available.

Click here to order them through Ticketmaster:
We are excited about this one, so hope to see you there!!!
We made the Billboard! Wahooo!!!
Check out: for a full tour schedule. Also, our Facebook group is nearing the 1,000 range. If you have not already, please join! Invite your friends!

Stay tuned for our new updated website...coming soon!
Happy Happy Spring to you all!! Got out the bikes for the first time on Saturday..went up a few too many hills and am having a hard time walking now....

Hope to see you soon,

We had a wonderful time last weekend performing a benefit concert for the Children's Aid Society in Owen Sound at the OSCVI Auditorium.
Last week we had a tour of Eastern, Ontario. One of our stops was at J.G Simcoe Public School in Kingston. When we arrived we were so excited to find that the 5/6 class had been practicing a performance of "Treasure of Gold". They did an amazing job, and ended up performing it during the show for the rest of the school. Here is a picture of the Pirate Crew:
Here is a clip of their rehearsal performance: [addOldBlogVideo filename="2009-03-15"] Awesome!
Then is was off to the Octave Theatre in Kingston where we were blown away by a sold out crowd. YAY Kingston! It was amazing to see so many familiar faces. Thankyou all so much for coming.

40 Below and Lots of Snow!
Posted: February 24, 2009
Hello Everyone

Hope you are having a fantastic February where ever you might be. We just spent last weekend in Thompson, Manitoba performing at their Winterfest. We flew into Winnipeg then it we switched planes and got on a 30-seater and flew north for another 2 hours.
Such a beautiful area......but very chilly. Although we were told it was actually quite warm compared to what it had been the week before!
We bundled up and did a walk around tour before our show:

We came across a 10-storey wolf mural, an exact reproduction of Robert Bateman’s wolf sketch ...or was it real????? Taes wasn't sure:

After we thawed out we headed to the theatre to perform in front of a great crowd with lots of singing and dancing energy. Here is the beautiful R.D. Parker Letkemann Theatre where we performed.

The next morning the weather dipped down to 40 below but the sun made everything sparkle...and my nose almost fall off.

Thanks to the wonderful people in Thompson for making our trip such fun one.

We are now back at home working away...planning our next tour. Check our Schedule to see if we will be in a town near you:

Hope everyone is staying warm and singing lots. Spring is right around the corner...!

Bye for now

A new year and new home ...
Posted: February 4, 2009
Hello from our new home!

We have spent the last week and a half moving into our new home in Toronto, Ontario...aka Splash'N Boots headquarters. We spent the day painting with the colour "Dill" and now have green paint in our hair, but have successfully finished one room!

We had an amazing show last week in Kingston, Ontario at Holy Family School. It was a special evening concert for Literacy Week. A few days before the show we got an email from four Grade 8 Girls who were learning one of our songs to perform for the younger kids during the day at school to promote the show. They had picked the song "Razoo" and wanted some help with some of the moves. Little did I know that "The Razoo" was going to become a full-fledged dance number. These girls could dance! They ended up teaching me most of the moves, and performed it with us on the evening of the concert. (video footage to come!!) Thanks to Danni, Sammi, Megan and Chelsea "The Razoo" has become our new favorite show-song!

Here they are posing in "Razoo Position" after the concert:

If you are in the Barrie area we will be appearing in the A-Channel Morning Show this coming Friday around 7am. Get ready to do the Pirate Dance in your Pj's...!

Also this Saturday we will be performing at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville, ON:

We would love to see you there!

Stay tuned for our full March Break and Spring and Summer Tour coming up. We also have a few exciting projects on the go that we can't wait to tell you about...

If you haven't already, check out our Facebook Group:

Also, we are looking for any video footage you have of your children/family/grandma dancing to Splash'N Boots....Have an awesome version of the "Hippo Stomp"..? Send it our way..!

Time to paint again.

Wishing you all a cozy February.
Can't wait to see you soon,

Bringing in the New Minus 27!

Happy New Year to all!

We spent a chilly New Years Eve rockin out in Barrie, Ontario. I cannot believe the number of people who came out despite the "Extreme Cold Weather Warning" You guys are hero's. We love you. Especially love all of the parents who had no choice but to do the "hippo stomp" to keep warm! So a huge thank you to Barrie for all your snowsuit dancing and mitten clapping. Somehow Nick's fingers made it through the set without falling off...-27 degrees was a push.

PLUS we got to meet Sloan..which was exciting.

They look colder than us.

Hope you are all enjoying being back at school, work and doing whatever exciting things 2009 has to bring.

We are starting off the New Year with 4 concerts right here in Burlington, Ontario this coming weekend. We would love to see you there!

Show times are:
Friday, January 9th at 7:00 pm
Saturday, January 10th at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm
Sunday, January 11th at 1:00 pm

Shows are held at the Carlisle Community Centre. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at Zoom Zoom's Indoor Playground and Busy Bee Toys and Books in Waterdown, or else at the door of the show. This is a fundraising event for Awesome Beginnings Co-Operative Nursery School. We have a super group of mom's and volunteers working to put this show on. Make-sure you get your tickets early!

We are really excited about the upcoming year, and have lots of projects that are in the works. Can't wait to share them all with you.

Also want to thank you for your support and emails and for coming out and making 2008 so much fun for us. We couldn't do this without you!

Can you Razoo? Now you can!

Our fourth CD has officially arrived just in time for your family parties this holiday!

Songs include:

Barnyard Hardcore
Nature Sings

and many more! 11 completely new and original Splash'N Boots tracks.

The health benefits of a little Razoo every day are far reaching. Razoo's "unpredictable musical blend" is recommended for those aged 0-100 by doctors and professionals alike. Razoo is a combination of two large tablespoons rock. A hint of Celtic. A sprinkling of quiet symphonic lullabies. One large hippo, and an organic carrot. Should be taken audibly daily.

Order today to guarantee it gets there on time for the holidays.

It has been awhile since we last blogged- things have been very very busy. Hope everyone is doing well and back to school is loads of fun.

Since we last blogged we finished amazing 10 days in Prince Edward Island -what a beautiful place and a great event Old Home Week was. Here's a sunset picture from one our last night there.

After that we had shows in Cambridge, Peterbourgh and Barrie Ontario then Shawville Quebec, then rocked back out in Perth Ontario (Taes’ hometown) – lots of cute children there.
Here they are modelling our brand new T-shirts (send us an email if you would like to won one yourself!)

Then it was 10 great days of performing in London, Ontario at the Western Fair. It was so amazing to see so many of familiar faces from last year and those of you who were in out Whoopie Video! Despite some rainy days we had such a great time.

Well the summer leg of our tour in now done and we have some great fall shows coming up. As well, we are excited to put the finishing touches on our new album “Razoo” It is so close to being completely finished and we are so thrilled for you to hear it.

From Mountains to Red Sand!

Hello from Beautiful Prince Edward Island!

Since we last wrote we have been hiking in Banff:

We ate cherries off the tree in Creston BC:

We did lots of shows at the second largest rodeo in Canada in Strathmore, Alberta:
I finally caved and bought a cowgirl hat... we turned in to regular cowboys

While in Strathmore we watched an event called "The Running of The Bulls" People pay $25 to run around a pen with a herd of bulls. We passed on that opportunity this year....but it was fun to watch!
We also met a man who travels around the world shooting himself out of a canon...what a blast

Then we flew from Calgary, stopped over in Toronto (but not long enough to go home...!), and landed in Charlottetown PEI.

..pretending we are in the Sound Of Music

We are performing here all week, and sneaking down to the ocean between shows. Even though it is not super warm we are going swimming before we go home!!
It has been great seeing so many fans from when we were here a few years ago and as always the island hospitality is incredible.

We fly home next Sunday and then have a show in Waterloo at 2pm at their Kidspark festival. Check it out:

Would love to see you there.

Happy August to all...

Stampede fun continues!

Hello From Calgary...again! (we are thinking we should probably buy a house , since we are here more then we are Ontario!)

We spent 10 full days at the Stampede filled with Cowboys, corndogs and Bull riding:

Then we packed up our suitcases and headed to Red Deer, Alberta to perform in their "Westerner Days". It was our first time in Red Deer. We did not see any Deer that were red, but we did meet some fantastic people.

We shared a stage with a group called "Dirty Dishes" from can these girls sing! Check out their website:

Plus we got to spend lots of time with our great friend "Bandaloni". Yes, that is a full band strapped onto his back......and it sounds every bit as good.

Now we are back in Calgary enjoying some days off. Yesterday we went to the zoo. We saw Giraffes:

a Baby Elephant...awwwww

and my personal favorite...a baby Gorilla. It was the size of a real baby and the cutest thing in the whole world.

We also saw Hippos, but they were moving to much to get a good picture. I think they were doing the Hippo Stomp...which reminds me..

.As a preview to our new CD we are releasing "Frieda" for a free download. Just click here and save to your computer:

Tomorrow we are heading to Banff for some hiking and to see Lake Louise in the summer. Can't wait! Then off to Strathmore, Alberta for 9 shows!

Happy Summer to all. Stay tuned for more bloggin fun

Hello from the greatest outdoor show on Earth!
Yup..that's right…the Calgary Stammmmpeeede.

We are just about to begin our seventh day of shows here. YAHOOO!

The last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind.
Before we left home we had shows in Cobourg, which we almost rained out…but not quite.

Then we went to Edmonton for Canada Day:

Then we drove to Calgary and have been Stampeeeding ever since. Lots of Cowboys and cowgirls here ready to do the Whoopie Dance. Here is a picture of a young cowgirl Charlise in her new Splash'N Boots T-Shirt:

Yesterday we performed as a part of the Kids Day Pancake Breakfast on the Grandstand:

It was amazing performing to thousands of people!

Everyday over 100,000 people go through the gate at the Stampede…soo many people! And every night there is a Grandstand Show that is truly spectacular.

Then we met Miss. Canada:

And hung out with the greatest a cappella group in Canada: The Heebee- Jeebees

It has been so great meeting all of you, and seeing so many familiar faces in Calgary. A huge thank you to everyone who has come out to sing and dance with us.

If you live in Calgary we are doing an extra show at Rope Square downtown Calgary this coming Saturday morning at 9:30. If you come down early there will be time to grab some pre-show pancakes!

And if you are at the Stampede c’mon down to the Buckaroos stage, we would love to sing and dance with you!

Wishing you all a warm and a big yippe kyyy yaaay

Bye for now..

Singing and Flying
Posted: June 3, 2008
Hello from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Wow- have we ever been busy the last little while. When we wrote last we were in Fredericton, New Brunswick. After our long drive home we spent the week finishing up our new album, then we re-packed our suitcases…and this is where things start to get busy…

We started by flying to Calgary, Alberta, where we performed in their International Children's Festival.
And what a festival it was! We met performers from all over the world, took in some amazing shows and performed for 5 days. It was so great to see so many familiar faces, and people singing along to our songs- can’t wait to see you all at the Stampede this summer!

From Calgary, we hopped on a plane to Toronto, Ontario. Then took a really really small plane to Kingston, Ontario. By small we mean 20 people on-board and that's including the pilot!

In Kingston we had a very exciting experience. A few months ago we got a call from Andy Rush (yup...that's him in the middle..)
Andy is an extremely talented choral composer and director from Kingston who directs the “Open Voices” Community Choir. Andy asked if he could write choral music to some of our songs and if we would be Guest artists in their Springtime Concert. We quickly agreed we would make the flight home. We arrived and were able to practice once with the band…then the next day we found ourselves on stage in front of 700 people performing "Good Day" and our brand new song "Nature Song" with a 100 person choir (who we had never met or practiced with!!) What an incredible experience. The choir was absolutely amazing. Not only were their harmonies and voices beautiful but they danced to the Pirate Song like I have never seen before!! (stayed tuned for some classic video footage)

After the two choir concerts we woke up at 4am and hopped back on our tiny plane to Toronto, then a bigger plane to Edmonton, Alberta, where we have been performing in the St. Albert Children’s Festival.

We were so excited to be a part of this festival again this year. As well as doing daily shows, we were a part of the Festival Finale Performance, along with performers from around the world. One of our favorite parts of these festivals is getting to meet people, and see their shows. We met people from Africa, Russia, Germany, Japan and of course Canada.

This morning we flew to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and will be starting shows here tomorrow morning. Our schedule can be seen here

In other news, our first full length DVD is now completely finished! It has been sent to the manufacturers and will be ready, for you to watch on your TV, by June 15th. Stay tuned……..

also we have new T-shirts! They are always available after a show.

Hope you are all enjoying the end of the school year...loving the summer breeze in the air!

Talk to you soon,

Taes and Nick

We are currently in the van on a Splash’N Boots Road Trip! We just entered New Brunswick and are headed to the provinces' captital; Fredricton to do shows.

This past weekend we were in Taes’s hometown of Perth Ontario where we performed 2 benefit concerts for “Bracelets of Hope” . What an incredible story- check it out! Here we are with Carrie-Anne, the girl who started it all:

Together we raised over $2000. Thank you so much to everyone who came out, and we wish everyone a safe trip to Zimbabwe.

This was our very first concert performing with a local Choir. This fabulous group performed two songs with us: “This is Our Home” and “I Love You the Most” They were awesome! We are excited about the possibility of performing with other local choirs in the future…

Last week we did two shows at Queen’s University, Kingston Ontario. One show was for over 600 students from bused in schools from around the city. The other show was unlike anything we have ever done before. We were asked to do a 25 minute show for all of the Graduating Teachers of the Faculty of Education. Picture 700, adults singing “wahooo wahooo” during the Treasure of Gold at the top of their lungs. The education system has a bright future with this group!

For the next few days we will be performing in local Fredricton schools. The weekend will be spent with shows at the FredKids Fair. Next week it is back to the studio to finish mixing the album, then off to Western Canada for Children’s Festivals.

Stay tuned for: The Splash’N Boots Show…our first DVD, coming soon!

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful spring weather. There are still traces of snow here in New Brunswick!
Hope to talk to you soon!

Abu Dhabi and a Dubai of a Time
Posted: March 24, 2008

A new look for Splash?

Hope everyone is well. We are now back home in Ontario, Canada after an unforgettable tour across the Middle East. When we last left you we were still in Bahrain, after that we flew over to Abu Dhabi and performed at the American International School.

We then took the drive to Dubai. Dubai is an incredible city. There is one thing you notice right away as you enter the city

Yes- that is the world's tallest building and those buildings surrounding it are very big. Currently at 168 floors..yikes!

We also swam beside the world's tallest and most expensive hotel.... The 7 star- Burj Al Arab.

We had such a great time performing in Dubai....

This was such an amazing part of the world that we were lucky enough to visit and perform. Thank you to everyone we met overseas.

It is great to be back in Canada although the -10 degree weather was a little shocking coming from the 30 degree weather of the dessert. We will be heading into the studio tomorrow to continue to work on our upcoming album. We are very excited for the new songs and will be releasing more information on release dates and the Title of the album very shortly!

If you would like to send us an email directly you can now email us at We will always respond as soon as we can.

We are off to Brandon, Manitoba at the end of the week so we will be blogging from there soon!

Bye for now!

Splash'N in the Middle East

H.E.L.L.O from the Middle East!

Well, we somehow managed to fly 15 hours across the Atlantic Ocean and now find ourselves in the beautiful country of Bahrain. Things here are a “little” different from our home in Ontario, Canada but there is there is one thing we have noticed in our travels; everywhere we go the people are so hospitable and friendly….and the children love to dance….. !

We have already performed one show in Bahrain and have 2 more shows tomorrow.

Bahrain is an absolutely beautiful country. We have seen many amazing things:

We found a huge outdoor market:

We took a trip to the desert to visit a farm…but this farm had something special. It had over 30 camels including a pure white baby camel… Taes even got a camel kiss

This farm also had jumping deer!

We found the “Tree of Life” which is this huge tree in the middle of the desert. It has been around for hundreds of years and its source of nutrition remains a mystery to this day.

We also came across a herd of wild camels crossing the desert .. Taes decided to stop and ask for directions:

Near where we are staying in the city of Manama is the Bahrain Fort. Archaeologists have dated some of its first foundations all the way back to 2500 BC….that’s kinda old

In 2 days we will be flying to Abu Dhabi to perform, then off to Dubai. It is hard to believe we are even here but we are loving every minute of it…
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying March Break. Thanks for all the messages and we will try to get another blog up really soon.

Bye Bye for now!

Love Taes and Nick…
P.S Harry the Parrot is becoming somewhat of a celebrity in these parts!

H.E.L.L.O from Bermuda!
So far we have had an amazing time. Here's a peak at what we have been up to. When we first arrived we were taken to do a radio interview:
The next morning we did another 2 radio interviews then 2 shows at local schools. After that we went exploring on Bermuda's south shore. We walked along the coast for hours Taes played a game with the waves...and almost lost We thought we would take a small video to say hello and show you around. [addOldBlogVideo filename="2008-03-08-oh-what-a-ber"]
The next day we performed at another school. ...we will post a video from that show on our next blog.
We have seen some real cool things including this little guy:
We went underground and saw a tour of this cave.. we are not sure but this could be Batman's summer home:
Now it's off to perform 2 shows at the Theatre...we will put some more pictures up very soon. We hope everyone is doing well! Harry the Parrot is a little sore from his sun burn but he'll be ok Bye for now.... Love Nick and Taes

3 Feet of Snow and Sold out Shows
Posted: February 10, 2008
Hello from Northern Ontari-OH
We are sitting in the Holiday Inn in wonderful Sault Saint Marie, Ontario. We were supposed to be on a plane back home now, but since the snow has decided to travel at about 100 kilometers sidewides no flights are arriving or departing ........ we are not going anywhere. That's ok because the last place we would want to be in this storm is 25,000 feet in the air! I can hardly even make it across the street in this wind- I should get an umbrella and try to be Mary Poppins and fly home. This is me outside a few minutes ago. brrrr!
We had two fantastic shows here as a part of the Bon Soo Festival, which is an incredible 10 day family oriented winter festival, now in its 45th year! It was great seeing so many of you from our shows last year back again. What great crowds we had- thanks so much for coming and to the Bon Soo commitee for hosting us.
The lineup started early..

-30 problem. Here we come KIRKLAND LAKE!
Posted: January 27, 2008
We have just returned home from The Great North. Friday night we had a show in Kirkland Lake Ontario, which is about 600kms North of Toronto. Bright and early Thursday morning, Nick, my Grandma and I piled into our van and drive 7 hours straight North.
My Grandma was born and raised in Kirkland Lake, so she came with us to show us the sights. When we arrived it was a winter wonderland with a temperature of minus 30, and the snow piled high on the side of the road.
Friday we got the full Kirkland Lake Tour, complete with 2 museums. Kirkland Lake is a mining Town (lots of Gooolddd!!) Foster Hewitt called Kirkland Lake "the town that made the NHL famous" because so many hockey players were born there (ie- Ted Lindsay) We tried out our own hockey skills..
Our show was held at the College Auditorium.
Thanks to everyone who came- what an enthusisatic crowd- you guys were awesome. Here is a video of the audience giving a big Kirkland Lake Shout out during the show:

Winter Storms and Video Blogging!
Posted: December 4, 2007
Hello and welcome to the month of the "Winter Storm Warnings" I hope you are all keeping safe, and cozy and warm. If you managed to get more snow then rain this past weekend hope you are getting a chance to toboggan and play in it. We ended up getting freezing rain on top of the snow which made for a bit of a slippery weekend here in Southwestern Ontario. In fact it was so slippery that I managed to fall on the stage during our show at Young and Dundas Square downtown Toronto!! It was quite the move. I wish I had it on video. For all of you who made it out despite the freezing rain, we love you so much. Seriously. You are heroes. Last weekend we did a show in Bowmanville with Madame Buskerfly... Here is our first video blog we took from backstage...wheee: [addOldBlogVideo filename="2007-12-04"] We are still filming like crazy. Our "Splash'N Boots "set" is coming along well. Rumour has it that our "Whoopie" video is going to be done later on this week which means: perfect stocking stuffers! We will keep you up-to-date... Let us know if you would like to take part in our: 2 for $20 CD deal for Christmas presents. You have until December 14th to order. Just send us an email with details about which ones you would like, and your address: Don't forget to let us know who to sign them for! "Splash'N Boots Radio" is launching on-line this coming Thursday at 7:30am and 4:30pm on Saturday. Check it out: We are looking for short stories to read on our next episodes as a part of our Storytime. Stories can be about anything at all, and should be under 1 page. Please send your creations to: We can't wait to read them! We had our first Toronto Subway debut during the past month...Thanks Amber for sending us this picture! That's about it for now. We would love to hear from you...maybe see you one more time before the holidays. We have an outside show in Pickering this Friday. Hope everyone is getting bundled up as November has come in a hurry. We have been busy since the last time we blogged it up. As you may have noticed we gave our website a needed makeover. We have also been performing lots of shows and filming away for our upcoming DVD. We are excited that we now have a real Splash'N Boots set that we are going to start filming in this week.

We also did some more filming in a field: will make a lot more sense why we have a door in the middle of a field once you see the actual scene this is a part of :)

If you are in the Toronto area December 2nd - we have a big outdoor show at Dundas Square downtown Toronto at 2pm... should be good times and perhaps and little chilly too! Hope everyone is have a great time and doing lots of singing and dancing. Look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon!

Whooooopie! A farm experience like no other.
Posted: October 26, 2007
Last weekend, over 50 people from all over, traveled to a farm outside London Ontario to be a part of our “Whoopie” Music Video. What a time was had. In order for everything to work out many factors had to fall into place. First of all, the weather had to cooperate – being late October you take a big chance with an outdoor video shoot. However, as luck would have it, records were broken with temperatures hitting the 26 degree mark and sunny skies to boot. Then you have to have wonderful singers and dancers with lots of energy to perform the ultimate barn dance over and over again. Boy did we ever have that! Plus these dancers came dressed in some of the finest cowboy and cowgirl outfits I have ever seen.

It was an amazing experience and we thank all the families for coming out and being a part of it. We will let you know when "Whoopie" is officially released and you can see some of these dancers in action. Until then, here are a few pictures.

The one above is a different is a clue, see if you can guess: he is juggling vegetables.....
Hope everyone is enjoying this fall weather and getting outdoors. We look forward to seeing you soon. Keep singing and dancing.
Bye for now and we will be bloggin it up shortly!

Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful Fall weather. I love the air at this time of year. We had an amazing Fall experience at one of the greatest farms in all of Canada. Outside of London Ontario is The O'Shea Farm. It was there under the random hot October sun we started filming pieces of our upcoming DVD including the Rockin Vegetable Video. In the perfect pumpkin patch with the perfect rockin vegetable band we set out for a long day of filming. Little did we know what we were getting into but man did we have fun. We will be giving as much of behind the scene footage we can. We are so excited about the final product. Here are a couple shots of the Rockin Vegetable shoot.
The next day things got interesting as Taes made her acting debut with a Horse! We shot this scene at Nick's parents farm. I'm not sure if this Horse realized acting was one of his horse skills but he was a trooper take after take... so was Taes. Not sure who invited this other horse onto the set:)
Even Harry had some Star Moments on Camera
We have been busy designing and getting the new website up- we hope you like it and have had a chance to check everything out...there is so much that is new!
We are off to Belleville on Friday night for a benefit concert for Almost Home. Then to Kingston to perform at Homecoming for Queen's University and then Battersea's PumpkinFest (there might also be birthday cake for a certain member of Splash'N Boots who's name is not Nick).
If you are looking for a perfect family day away here is the link for the O'Shea farm...the filming location of both Rockin' Vegetable and Whoopie. There is tons to do give yourself lots of time!
Have a great day and we hope to see you soon!
Bye bye!!!

What a time it was in Saskatoon on our last leg of our 7 week tour. It was a lot fun exploring the city and performing 18 shows at the Saskatoon Ex. Once again we were treated so well and met some incredible people. One thing we learned on this 50 day trip was that no matter where we are people are always so kind. So many people opened their doors to us while we were on the road- to all of you who we met thank you thank you.

While in Saskatoon it was really fun to watch the professional chuckwagon races... i think we have seen more horses on this tour than the average cowboy does in a year.

We also met the Doodlebops who were performing in Saskatoon as well. We ran into them in our hotel and had a nice chat with with them... after that they had to go get on the bus.

Silver Elvis was also saying at our hotel and we able to get a picture with him... Elvis lives

Quick Facts about this tour:

Total Distance Covered: Approx. 36,000 kms (

Flights: 12

Ferries: 2

Boats: 2

Bus: 1

Surf Boards: 2

Shows performed: 92

Kangaroos Spotted: 6

We are now back in Burlington for 2 days then off to Kingston and Amhertsview Ontario for shows... look for updates and pictures for those shows very soon. What a summer it has been... Talk to you soon!

Or maybe a ride on a motorcycle ...

Perhaps touching a 14 foot Python would be up your alley? no?

A ride on a monster truck?

Thanks to everyone for coming up and saying hello and singing with us- we met some great people. We have just flown into Saskatoon and are getting ready for the Saskatoon EX where will be performing 18 shows...we are now on week 7 of this tour and are on our last 6 days....wazoooooo Hope everyone is doing well and we run into you soon!

Splash'N Island Adventures!!!!
Posted: August 1, 2007
It has been a week we will never forget. Our trip to Vancouver Island was a full surprises and adventures.

It started with drive down what used to an old logging road but now is the only route to the west coast of Vancouver Island. In our little blue rental car fully loaded with Splash'N Boots stuff we travelled down a very curvy, winding road through mountains and beautiful lakes, and finally to a fork in the road. Tofino is one way, and Ucluelet the other. We took a left to Ucluelet, where we were transported into the most perfect little ocean town.

We were greeted by a community Salmon BBQ by the sea. There were live bands playing, people dancing and corn being roasted . It was “Ukee Days’’, a three day annual festival celebrating this community and all its wonderful qualities.

The shows went really well - filled with dancers and singers of all ages. The community there was just incredible and filled with tons of town spirit; the festival grounds were always full, the stage was filled with many talented local bands and children as well as those from other parts of Canada.

During our 4 day visit we were presented with wonderful adventures that we will never forget.

Our first adventure: Surfing
With a brief lesson and surf boards in hand we headed to open ocean. Now I can’t say that either of us were naturals at it, but we did both stand up once before doing a face plant flat into the water. Who knew waves could be so strong. It was so fun. Harry the Parrot would have joined us but we could not find a wetsuit that would fit.

Next Adventure: Pacific Rim Trail
This was a hike we did along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It was absolutely gorgeous- Canada has some of the greatest coasts in the world..

Next adventure: Hot Springs Cove
This adventure involved a very wavy hour and a half boat ride to a very remote area of the Island where natural Hot Springs exist in their natural setting ( that's a lot of natural). After the boat landed we did a long hike through beautiful rain forest to the place where the springs were situated. Let me tell you they were not joking about hot- these were hotter then a hot tub…and much more fun. We spent the afternoon soaking in the water, and sitting under the waterfalls. It was perfect.

But to make the day even that much more perfect we had many surprises on our boat ride home. Our captain decided to forgo the calm way home and take us out to the open ocean where the huge waves are in the hopes of seeing whales. After a half an hour of waves that sent our small boat flying up and down and side to side (sometimes I might have felt slightly nervous…!!) We both happened to be looking at the same place at the same time and saw a 30 ton Humpback Whale jump straight up in the air and land with a huge splash right beside the boat! It was the most incredible experience. We have never seen anything like it. It was like the whale was putting on a show for us because minutes later he did it again, along with a few other tail splashes. It was unbelievable!

Then we pulled up along a small island and saw Steller Sea Lions basking in the sun….they are the biggest sea lions in the world and definitely the cutest. Taes felt like snuggling up with them on the rock.

What a day. The sun made its way down on the west coast and the next day we headed back to the airport.

Next Adventure: Cathedral Cove

We managed to fit in one last hike on the way to the airport. We stopped on the side of the road outside of Port Alberni and walked among the tallest trees in the world. It was awesome. It is really hard to describe just how big these trees were but it felt like we had been shrunk down to the size of ants.

Well we are now back in Calgary preparing for some shows then heading off to Strathmore Heritage Days where we will be preforming 9 shows over 3 days. Hope everyone is having a great summer.... its August!
Talk to you soon,

Love Taes and Nick
Edmon Ton of Fun
Posted: July 26, 2007

Hope everyone has been enjoying July! We have just finished performing 11 shows at the Edmonton Capital Ex and now find ourselves in sunny Vancouver. We had such a great time singing and dancing in Edmonton and seeing so many people we met at the St. Albert International Children’s Festival. Thanks for coming back and saying hello!
One of the highlights of Edmonton was a new exhibit all about butterflies. Not really knowing what we were getting ourselves into, we ventured in, only to find about 5000 butterflies flying around everywhere. It was unlike anything we have ever seen before. They seemed to like Taes right away.

While in Edmonton we also came across a statue of “The Great One”…he’s the one holding the Stanley Cup:)
We had some excitement after our last show. We had to high-tail it to our vehicle when we were greeted with a lovely thunderstorm that brought with it several rain, winds and Tornado warnings. It was our quickest exit from a festival ever… and our wettest! Here is the picture of the calm before the storm.

We are now writing to you from a little coffee shop in wonderful Vancouver. Tomorrow we are off to Vancouver Island and are very excited to see the very very west coast of Canada and perform in Ucluelet on Sunday.

Plenty of adventures await. Thanks again to all of you for coming out to our shows – you truly make what we do soo fun. Keep sending emails- we love reading them and writing back!

****Harry the Parrot is really hoping he can see a whale off Vancouver Island since he didn’t get a chance to see one in Australia... we’ll seee!

Talk to you soon!

A Stampede of a Time
Posted: July 17, 2007

What a time we had at this years Stampeeeeede. 35 shows in 10 days...yahoooo !!!! The most exciting part was seeing so many familiar faces from last year who came back to see us again. Some even wore their own Pirate Costumes!! It was also fantastic to meet so many new families.

Since we were at the Stampede we made sure we went to the Rodeo:

Not sure if riding a Bull for 8 seconds is for us but I guess for some people neither is wearing blue pants :)

We also got to meet some great people. We were fortunate enough to share the Grandstand Stage and hang out with wonderful Children's Musicians Judy and David. Also the best acapella group in the world the Heebee-Jeebees. In between shows we always caught our favourite country music stars the Rodeo Riders.

On our last day of the Stampede we were treated with a concert at the Saddledome by fellow Kingstonians (a little known group) called: The Tragically Hip!

It was amazing...what a show! However things got even more exciting since we got backstage-passes after the concert. Here we are with lead guitarist Rob Baker and Bassist Gordon Sinclair.

Thanks again to everyone who came out to our were amazing and we hope to see you again soon. We are now enjoying a day off and getting ready to head up to Edmonton for the Capital EX.

We'll talk to you soon! Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far!

The Outback to the Wild West...
Posted: July 6, 2007
Hello from the Calgary Staaaampede in Alberta, Canada....yesterday we would have been saying G’Day Mate!

After 4 Flights , 30 hours of straight travelling, and somehow two Thursdays in a row we are back in Canada safe and sound and very very sleepy!
... but what a tour

Here's what went down down-under...
From Toronto we flew over the Grand Canon stopped in L.A and continued over the large oh soo very large ocean that is the Pacific and arrived in Sydney Australia. Other then a slight miss-hap in Los Angeles involving us running full speed across the airport to catch our next flight we made it in one piece- with all of our luggage and only slightly jet-lagged.

We spent our first day in Sydney, Australia trying to see as much as we possibly could in 24 hours. We went on a ferry to Manly Island, and saw the famous Opera House. LALALALA!

The next morning we were back in the air again and off to Melbourne, Australia for the day. After a quick taste of Melbourne and all its great art , history and coffee we managed to get ourselves on a train and traveled 3 hours South to Warrnambool (our final destination!!)
here's downtown Melbourne:

Warrnambool is unlike any other place we have visited. It is right on the southern coast of Australia. Everywhere you look there is Ocean. The beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world. Our favorite beach was called "Logan's Beach", which is also a lookout for whales. Every year whales make their way to this area and have their calves. So with many other onlookers, we stood and watched. Although we did not see any directly, those with binoculars had 4 sightings while we there. Here is a picture of Logan’s Beach and lookout.

Our shows at the FUN 4 KIDS festival were fantastic. The Australian families welcomed our music and were singing and dancing along. The crowds were super. Although we must admit it was a bit intimidating performing right after and before international superstars: The Wiggles:

But we quickly made friends with Wags The Dog:

Taes asked Captain Feathersword if he knew the Last Pirate on Lake Ontario??:...

and we did the Romp Bomp A Stomp with Dorothy The Dinosaur. Nick even brought her a rose.

Then we hit the stage:

Everyone treated us so well. We were known as "The Canadians", and they all commented on OUR accents!!

While we were there our wonderful stage manager lent us her car to take for the afternoon… this may seem like a simple thing – however Australians tend to drive on the left side of the road. This was no easy challenge- especially while driving standard. (Taes was a hero).

So after we found the courage to keep on driving we made it to a place we heard about called Tower Hill, which is a actually a volcano which last erupted over 30 thousand years ago. .. it is considered dormant .. not extinct.. YIKES! When it did erupt all those years ago it made beautiful craters, lakes and mountains and is now a protected reserve. Now the rumour was that if we went, we MAY see Koala Bears, and although not likely …Kangaroos. The thought that if we might see any of these animals in the wild was worth the trip for us. Well were we in for a treat....

We headed along a nature path with our eyes scanning the trees for Koalas… and sure enough we found the sweetest little guy. Man oh man are they cute. We were able to get sooooo close to him. They are so round and fuzzy! Taes wanted to take it home with us. It was so incredible.

After that we were feeling pretty lucky with our two sightings, when all of a sudden we were face to face with TWO Kangaroos! After Taes almost passed out with excitement- we were able to take some pictures. They just looked at us and we just looked at them. This lasted for about 5 minutes then the just hopped away using those massive back legs. WOW. It’ll be a day we’ll never forget.
The next day after our shows we headed down the windy "Great Ocean Road" to see the 12 Apostles, which are a famous rock formation in Australia. They were created many many years ago by the erosion of the coastline. We made it just before sunset and were able to get some fantastic pictures.

After our last show we jumped back on the train to Melbourne, took 4 different planes, hit 5 major cities and 3 countries, and woke up this morning in the wild wild west that is Calgary during Stampede week.

Today we headed downtown and saw the famous Calgary Stampede Parade... there was even someone riding a BULL.. for fun!

After that we headed down to the Stampede grounds and performed three shows.... only 33 to go, over the next 10 days....
We love the Stampede and are very happy to be performing again at it this year.

Most of all we love all of you who come to our shows, and bring us to your cities and countries. We feel so fortunate to have a job that enables us to see so much of the world and meet so many new people.

We hope you are all having an amazing summer so far and we can see you soon.

YAHOO (that's what everybody says during Stampede!)

Windsor , St.Marys stop Australia
Posted: June 25, 2007

A sunny weekend filled with music and meeting so many families - it was great. Our first stop was Windsor Ontario's Summerfest. Down by the waterfront where our shows were- Detroit, Michigan seemed very close. Taes didn't think it looked that big:

Nick didn't think it looked that far...swimming distance perhaps?

We performed 4 shows over Friday and Saturday. It was so great seeing so many familiar faces that saw us perform last February in Windsor. Thanks to everyone for coming out to sing and dance with us.

Hanging out with Kelly and Ashlyn our one of our shows at Summerfest.

It was then off to St.Marys to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame where we were met by an large energetic crowd. Since St.Marys is very close to where Nick grew up so many of his family and friends were about to make it out- here's his niece and nephew proudly displaying their Splash'N Boots hats before the show ( I think they may have little choice about their favorite group :) )

Now we have but one day to pack for Australia... and 50 days on the road. hmmm..

Here's where we are headed (click to make it bigger):

We fly into Sydney. Then we head to Melbourne the next day... then keep travelling south to the coast and you will see a city called Warrnambool. That's where we will be performing at the FUN4KIDS Festival . OZ awaits.... we'll keep you posted on the Splash'N Boots adventures. Harry the Parrot is slightly nervous about the 19hr flight- but we told him he may get to meet a Kangaroo so that calmed him down a bit :)

Hope everyone is doing well and singing lots. See you soon! Maybe down Under?

Plentiful Festivals

We had a wonderful weekend performing at the Mississaugua Waterfront Festival on Saturday. This was the 4th year in a row we have performed there, so it was great seeing some many familiar faces in the crowd. One face we always enjoy to see, is that of our great friend Trulee Odd... he enjoys juggling Knives blindfolded while on a 10 foot unicycle - his mother is extremely proud.

We also met a great banjo player .....

The wonderful people from Jungle Cat World gave Taes an up close and personal look at a funny little guy. Does anyone know what this animal is called?

The next day we were in our hometown of Burlington to perform at the Sound of Music Festival. It was a lot if fun. If you ever get a chance to come visit this Festival is is worth the trip... its freeeeee and just full of great music. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to come up after our shows and say hello.

We are now getting ready to perform 4 shows at Summerfest in Windsor, Ontario on Friday and Saturday then we are travelling to the St. Marys on Sunday to perform at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. I'm hoping maybe I'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend for my home run I hit when was I was 7 years old... we'll seeee

Also if anyone out there are into the wonderful world that is Facebook- well we have the group for you.. its a an all you can eat Splash'N Boots Buffet.. pictures, stories, interactive fun. We would love to you see you there.

Time to say goodbye!

Awww beautiful Perth, home of many pretty parks, Big Ben(the horse) and the wonderful Studio Theatre, where we performed to a energetic sold out crowd.

The day before the show we did a surprise visit to a grade 1 music class in Taes's old public school. When we walked in, they were practising their drumming skills while listening to our first Album "Getting Our Feet Wet"... that was a big surprise to us. We joined in and performed 3 songs with them. Lots of fun!

Our show the next day was fantastic. Perth is such an amazing community. Since Taes has a lot of family in Perth they were happy to help out and we were so grateful to have them there with us.

Once the show got underway- it was a rockin time. Thanks to everyone for coming out and singing and dancing with us.

Now back in Burlington working away and enjoying the sunny outdoors. Looking forward to performing once again at the Mississauga Waterfront Festival on Saturday then 2 shows at the Burlington's Sound of Music Festival on Sunday.... two great festivals in Ontario..and both so very close to our house...!

With summer season creeping up so is the Festival season. Make sure you find out if there are any music festivals that may be coming up in your area. It's a great way to spend an afternoon with family and friends...and also see and support lots of great performers.

Talk to you sooooooon!

love Nick and Taes.... and Harry the Parrot

This is our friend Katie from St. Albert. Thanks for sending us the letter and picture Katie! Can't wait to see you next time we are out your way.

Well after 4 flights, 1 ferry ride and 20 shows we made it home from the first leg of our tour. We were so impressed with The International Children's Festival in St. Albert, Alberta. We met some wonderful people and were treated so well... and there were plenty of great dancers! The only slight struggle we had was with the weather. Being on the outdoor stage, we were exposed direcly to the sun....and boy oh boy did it get hot. The average tempature over the 5 days was about 29 degress and at last count we saw only 2.5 clouds...but we loved the challenge annnnd the mild sun stroke. Harry the Parrot was also feeling the heat but recovered nicely when he found out he had made his first newspaper cover.

He felt like the Rockin Roll King.
One of the highlights of the week came on the last night of the festival during the Finale. We were asked to join some of the incredible international groups in one final show where they displayed a taste of what they have been up to all week. It was fantasic. Here's us with Rick Scott after the final show.....

After a little howling we then jumped on a plane made it back to our little airport in Hamilton Ontario.

We are now getting ready to head to Perth Ontario (Taes' hometown) for a show on Saturday at the Studio Theatre. I'm sure we will see a lot of familair faces.
Hope everyone is enjoying the outdoors and finding time for a little music and dancing! Talk to you very soon. Same place? Same Time? Keep Rockin

Here we are at the Travel Lodge in Edmonton wondering how we went from looking out at ocean to looking out at Car dealerships. hmmmm........

Sunday before we left Vancouver Island we went on a walk along the ocean, and it is probably among the most beautiful walks I have ever had in my life. We started on a regular old path, then we moved to rocky beach, then we were in a hidden green area that reminded me of the book "The Secret Garden". From there we found ourselves among tall cedars and at the end we came out on a mountain spring that we dipped our fingers and toes into (very very chilly!!)

We flew into Edmonton on Monday afternoon. We are playing at the St. Albert International Children's Festival. What an amazing festival this is. We have met performers from all over the world- from Peru to Germany and right back to Quebec City. We are doing 3 shows a day on the outdoor stage (which is sometimes very very very hot..) But we are having a great time and are meeting so many families.....
9 shows to go and then we are flying home.wheeeee.

We got the chance to see a Rick Scott and the Pied Pumkids show yesterday. Rick Scott is a Canadian Icon, with 15 albums released and many many awards for his music. Their show was fantastic - we left feeling completly inspired.....

We have also had the chance to meet many other performers from across the world.
Nick was invited up on-stage by a fellow performer and then asked to do ballet. As you can imagine he was quite the hit.
These are our friends Ramblin Roy and his trusty sidekick Bucky

Here's our very tall friend Nikolai... those are some large pants

We are really looking forward to the rest of the festival.. it is certainly world class.

We will post some more pictures throughout the week. We are looking forward to coming home and performing at the Perth Studio Theatre next weekend.

Hope you are doing well and we can see you soon!

We would love to hear from you.

down by Oyster bay...

Hello from Oyster Bay- the most perfect place on Vancouver Island. As I write this I am looking out at the ocean, and sitting in a wooden cabin. The cabin is supposed to look like half a heart...i think it ressembles a barn...or a spaceship..

maybe an Oyster...? Either way it is perfectly cozy in here.
To get here we travelled to the island on the Ferry, rented a car and took a beautiful drive along the shore to Courtenay. We performed one show in Courtenay, and then the next day in Campbell River which is just 45 km down the highway. Both shows were fantastic- we loved meeting you all and have met so many amazing people in the past few days. Thanks for having us to your Island!

Yesterday we went to a wonderful place called Goose Spit ( don't let the name fool you we didn't find any goose spit)- here's a picture:
And Nick caught a Fish:

Taes found herself in a little bit of trouble:

Today we are spending our day off relaxing and exploring before we hop on the plane to Edmonton tomorrow and get set for 15 shows at the International Children's Festival in St. Albert, Alberta.
We are now off to do a hike on a trail called salmon's point. Looks like a great spot. The sun is out but the wind is blowing should be lots of fun. Did you know that the ocean temperature here is about the same in the summer as it is in the winter? It's just the air that is colder when you get out. ... maybe we will do a little ocean swimming if we get hot enough..!

A Whale of a Time

Good morning !ooorr maybe it's a later time where you are... sooo Good Day!,

I am awake early looking out over the ocean and mountains from the 19th floor condo we are lucky enough to be staying in. It is so very beautiful in Vancouver. Last night we had an incredible time performing at the Vancouver Aquarium. The evening was called: Dreamnight. It is a yearly event for the patients and families of BC Children's Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, Make a Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, and Canuck Place Children's Hospice. We performed with Bob's and Lolo. They are a fantastic group out of Vancouver who perform music all about Nature, and especially about creatures in the ocean. Which was perfect for the aquarium!! It was an amazing evening to be a part of.
We performed right in front of the Beluga Whales. I am absolutely in love with them. They are so very cute and blubbery. I think this guy is smiling at us,.....

We also saw many other creatures..Jellyfish:

Otters: (awww..look at the way their paws are folded on their tummy's)

Scary Fish:

Harry met some fish:

and found a long lost relative..:

After the shows we got a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium. We even got to touch a pink starfish!
Thank you so much to the staff of the aquarium and Bobs and Lolo. It was great to meet all of you who were there. We can't wait to see you again sometime.
On Friday we are off to Vancouver Island for 2 performances...looking forward to the ferry ride! Today we are heading into Stanley Park then having a dinner out to celebrate Nick's Birthday! Talk to you soon

A Penner For Your Thoughts
Posted: May 20, 2007
2 days ago we had breakfast with one of the greatest children's performers of all time... yes that's right ... Mr "Cat Came Back": Fred Penner. Wow-were we ever nervous. There Fred was shaking our hands and inviting us to sit down with him and there we were all sweaty palms and red faced ..but he was soo nice and friendly truly an amazing guy --what an experience! Here we are after breakfast.

We had two great shows: First in Canmore then in Cochrane, Alberta. So wonderful to meet all who were there. Here's us rockin' In Cochrane'.....

Yesterday we left bright and early and made the journey into the Rockies. It was a breath taking trip that saw stops in Banff , Lake Louise and many places in between.

We were visited by some mountain goats and elk- it was very kind of them to say hello..

Our adventurous day ended in Calgary where is started to rain, then hail and when we woke up the next morning there was an inch of snow on the ground....brrrrrrrr. We hopped on an airplane bright and early and flew to Vancouver which is where I am now writing you from. We have a show tomorrow night at the Vancouver Aquarium which should be so exciting with our friends 'Bobs and Lolo.'

Exploring new places and cities is very fun to do. We live in such a unique and beautiful country....this is our home, is our home CANADA.
Love our country.
Can't wait to see you sometime soon.

Can Less? nooo Canmore!

Well it was an early morning in Burlington as we made our way to our lovely Hamilton Airport and then off to Calgary. Here is Taes preparing for take off:

The clouds look like cauliflower from 4000 ft in the air which made me a bit hungry. Taes and I had 3 hours to to wait in the Calgary Airport before our shuttle took us to lovely Canmore Alberta. We spent our time writing a new song, enjoying watching people coming and going, and being very cautious of huge hippos:

After a wonderful walk around Canmore and being surround by the beauty of the Rockies we are now winding down after 10 hours of travelling. We are getting ready for our shows tomorrow at the children's festivals in Canmore and Cochrane- should be fun. Rumour at the front desk of our hotel is that Fred Penner is staying at our hotel! Taes is wandering the hallways hoping to bump into him......

We'll talk to you very very soon!
Keep rockin!
